Original newspaper issue containing “Shorter Notices: Professor Tolkien’s ‘Hobbit’”, attributed to C.S. Lewis.
The review of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit, or There and Back Again appears in the centre column of page 20. The original catalogue identifies C.S. Lewis as its subsequently established author. It is an early contemporary response to Tolkien’s newly published book.
The source description grades this newspaper Very Good Plus: complete and unmarked, with light age-toning and small areas of damage along the top edge. These minor defects are retained in the description rather than calling the copy perfect or mint.
