Bound in black buckram with Tolkien's Smaug device blocked in gilt, red and silver, gilt spine lettering, marbled endpapers and speckled edges. Thror's Map and the Map of Wilderland are reproduced on the endpapers.
Illustrated with Tolkien's five colour plates and eight further drawings coloured by H.E. Riddett. The book is clean, bright and tightly bound. The original black slipcase remains structurally sound, with light age wear and slight soiling to its printed label.
