Published in London by Collins Educational / HarperCollins in 1993. The copyright page states “Published in Cascades in 1993” with no later-impression line. Later impressions followed annually from 1994 to 1998. This pictorial hardcover was issued without a dust jacket and contains 285 pages, ISBN 978-0-00-330090-1.

The cover and interior illustrations are by Tolkien. Thror's Map and the Map of Wilderland appear on the endpapers; the photographed interior also shows Beorn's Hall opposite the relevant passage in “Queer Lodgings.”

Condition:
A presentable former school copy with honest handling wear. The front remains bright, with surface rubbing, scratches, edge wear and bumped corners; the green spine is intact. The binding appears sound and the pages, maps and illustrations remain complete and readable. A circular Staffordshire County Council - Cheadle High School ownership stamp appears on the author page.
