From 17 April 2007 we have The Children of Hurin fully restored from tolkien's manuscripts. His youngest son and literary executor, Christopher Tolkien, now 82, did the editing. The tale takes us back to tolkien's imaginary world of Middle-Earth from times long before the trilogy The Lord of the Rings. It is a part of a larger Legendarium, meaning "a collection of legends", which Tolkien used in reference to his works.

Tolkien manuscripts reside now 50 years at the Department of Special Collections and University Archives at Marquette University in Milwaukee. That of course need some celebration!

As a part of the celebration a lecture will we held on October 4, 2007 at 4:00 p.m in the Raynor Library's Conference Center. Past lectures on Tolkien at Marquette where done by Tom Shippey (2001), Doug Anderson (2002) and most recently Eduardo Segura (2006)... for this event no one less then John D. Rateliff may give a lecture!

The first part of The History of The Hobbit by John D. Rateliff, a new study of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit, has been published today. The two-volume work will contain Tolkien’s previously unpublished original drafts of the novel, accompanied by commentary written by the author. It will also detail Tolkien’s various revisions to The Hobbit, including abandoned revisions for the unpublished third edition of the work, intended for 1960, as well as previously unpublished original maps and illustrations drawn by Tolkien himself.

If there is one book that really has impressed me, it is Diana Glyer's The Company They Keep: C. S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien as Writers in Community. I read the review by Josh B. Long and needed to read the book for myself. And read I did, while the content of the book is very great, important facts are discussed and compared, and there is tons of interesting information, it remains easy and is very enjoyable to read. This book will probably become the standard book when people need to know something about The Inklings. If you are interested in the Inklings, this is the book to read. I'm very proud to offer you all an interview that I did with Diana Glyer. Hope you will enjoy it, and don't forget... her book is a must have for Tolkien and inkling lovers!
